Good-Lite APD Tester with LED and UV Illumination
The Good-Lite APD Tester is a patented innovative tool that will allow simultaneous superimposed view of both pupils. This one of a kind device shows both pupils superimposed at the same time and thereby solves the problem of detecting RAPD (relative afferent puppilary defect). Optional version with UV illumination supports detection of corneal lesions, abrasions, or foreign bodies. RAPD is also known as (Marcus Gunn Pupil) can be difficult to detect. Further, dark irides and sluggish pupils are often challenging to examine. The APD tester illuminates and magnifies the eye, so small contractions in the collarette of iris are readily seen. In other patients, post-surgical or post-traumatic pupils can show reflexes to light in a small sector or iris. These can also be detected using the APD tester which readily shows sectoral iris constrictions. A unique feature of this device is the examiner's ability to see both pupils superimposed at the same time. Illumination, however, can be directed to one eye at a time. This method allows observation of a direct response by both pupils. Switching the light to induce a consensual pupillary response easily shows any discrepancy between pupil reactions. This patented feature helps detect the slightest variation in RAPD. While the APD Tester can be used in normal room lighting, some observation can be enhanced with diminished room lighting. APD Tester version with UV illumination supports detection of corneal lesions, abrasions, or foreign bodies. It supports evaluation of Fluorescein pattern for corneal health and observation of certain types of contact lenses. For rigid gas-permeable contact lenses and hybrid contact lenses the APD Tester empowers observation of the Fluorescein pattern under magnification.
